When we meet our clients, often they are just glad to be home and keen to get on with life.
Most of them have been assessed in hospital and inpatient rehabilitation settings on numerous occasions.
In many ways, this is the real beginning of the journey and can be a very a challenging time as difficulties related to the brain injury can be very confronting when faced in a real life setting such as home or the local community.
As such, our assessment starts with a conversation, with both the client and his/her family. We strive to understand the challenges our clients and their families are facing and the things that they want to get on with, in their lives.
If indicated, we carry out formal assessments of speech, language or cognitive-communication abilities. We will always discuss assessment results and explain their implications to our clients and their families.
A thorough understanding of our client’s situation, their strengths and deficits, their goals and hopes and the family’s hopes for them is crucial as the basis for any intervention we do.
